School of Computing doctoral student Rubi Quiñones recently received the North American Plant Phenotyping Network (NAPPN) 2022 Graduate Student award.
Quiñones was honored with the award after presenting her research at the annual NAPPN 2022 Conference held at the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia Feb. 22-25.
NAPPN is an association of scientists and researchers in the rapidly evolving area of plant phenomics, formed as a regional partner of the International Plant Phenotyping Network (IPPN).
The NAPPN Graduate Student Award recognizes a graduate student who is making important contributions to plant phenotyping in areas of data analytics, engineering, modeling, physiology, plant breeding, plant sciences, remote sensing, or allied related disciplines. NAPPN seeks to highlight potential leaders in novel research, increasing the visibility of plant phenotyping, supporting research between public and private sectors, developing data standard best management practices, and transdisciplinary engagement, consistent with NAPPN's mission.
Quiñones was selected for the award for her ability to conduct significant interdisciplinary research in plant phenotyping, facilitating interdisciplinary training in data science and plant phenotyping research, and dedication to providing open-source datasets and code for the community to further research.
“This is my first award at a conference that highlights my significant research contribution and service to computer vision and plant phenotyping,” said Quiñones. “It feels great to know that my many years in research has been noticed and acknowledged.”
