Hall of Computing Inductees
2018
Tom and Rhonda Peed
In recognition of their pioneering work in the founding of Sandhills Global, a major corporate asset to the Lincoln community; the growth and evolution of the company across the United States and throughout the world; and their support of Nebraska’s educational institutions, including substantial support of the School of Computing at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, the Nebraska Hall of Computing proudly inducts Tom and Rhonda Peed to full membership. We congratulate and thank Tom and Rhonda Peed for their continued dedication and support of our department, our students and graduates, and the Lincoln community.
Tom and Rhonda Peed have been long-time investors in several businesses and the Lincoln community since 1985, when they moved their small publishing company to Nebraska from Webster City, Iowa. Though the company started out as a printer primarily for trade and machinery magazines, it has since expanded to offer a variety of digital and online services to a wide array of markets. Sandhills has been an early adopter of new technologies since its earliest days, and in more recent years, a developer of in-house tools that have set new standards across industries. Sandhills’ business offerings now include email, websites, customer and inventory management software, accounting services, and the innovative Sandhills Cloud. In an effort to further advance its growth and remain a leader in the technology field, the Peeds have heavily invested in the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and its students, particularly in the School of Computing. Sandhills serves as one of the department’s industry partners, and in addition to providing significant support and donations to the department every year, it also offers many scholarships, internships, and opportunities to its students and graduates. The Peeds remain dedicated to serving many other Lincoln organizations, including YMCA of Lincoln, the Lincoln Children’s Museum, the Lincoln Children’s Zoo, Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital, and the Lincoln Community Playhouse, Junior Achievement of Lincoln, the Great Plains Trails Network, Habitat for Humanity, the Friendship Home, and the Special Olympics, Cedars Home for Children, the People’s City Mission, the Food Bank of Lincoln, and the Cancer Research Center.
