The Holling Family Master Teacher Award is a general teaching award presented annually and open to all faculty ranks. It includes $1,000 from the university and $1,500 from the College of Engineering. Distinguished Teaching Awards are given to select faculty annually to honor those who advance the missions of the university in teaching, research and service.

Valentine was recognized for her dedication to Jeffrey S. Raikes School of Computer Science and Management students, particularly freshmen. She has played a key role in the school’s high student retention and graduation numbers.

Nominators said, “Dr. Valentine has completely changed the first-year experience for Raikes School students. Our four-year graduation rate has now reached the mid to upper 80 percent range. Our current sophomore class is on target to be the first Raikes School graduating class that tops 90 percent.”
