The School of Computing and the College of Engineering offer several scholarship opportunities to their students, many of which are exclusive for computing majors. Review the opportunities and application instructions below.

Applying for Financial Aid

Prospective Students

Applying for all university, college, and school scholarships is part of the application for admission. No additional steps are needed, you will be considered for any scholarships you qualify for. However, don't miss the application deadline. In addition students also have various other financial aid options available, visit the financial aid office for more information.

Office of Financial Aid

There are a few steps you should take to ensure that you are considered for all available scholarships:

  1. Apply to the university as soon as possible.
  2. Submit the Scholarship Statement as soon as you are able or prior to the February 1 deadline.
  3. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®).
  4. Review the College of Engineering's scholarship opportunities.

Current Undergraduate Students

In January, the returning student scholarship application will become available in your MyRed. Submit the completed application in your MyRed by February 1. Email the School of Computing advising team if you have any questions on scholarships and supporting materials required.

  1. Log into your MyRED account and click "Scholarship application for current undergraduate students."
  2. If additional information is requested, you will receive an email to your Husker account requesting this information.
  3. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Current Graduate Students

Several graduate fellowships and forms of support are awarded by the School of Computing and College of Engineering. Application procedures and opportunities can be found by visiting the Office of Graduate Studies or College of Engineering websites.

School of Computing Scholarships

In addition to the scholarships offered by the university, the College of Engineering and the School of Computing award several scholarships annually and exclusively its majors.

First-Year Students

The Mary E. and Elmer H. Dohrmann Scholarship

Several recipients annually.

Requirements:

  • Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Software Engineering major
  • Full-time enrollment
  • Demonstrates financial need (determined by FAFSA)
  • Exceptional and deserving student of good moral character
  • Promise and leadership in technology
The STEM CONNECT Scholarship

Awarded annually.

Requirements:

  • Be a U.S. citizen, national (as defined in section 101(a) of the Immigration and Nationality Act), permanent resident or alien admitted as a refugee under section 207 of the Immigration and Nationality Act
  • Be enrolled full time in a STEM-focused academic transfer program at SCC or WNCC or a bachelor's degree program at UNL majoring in mathematics, computer science, computer engineering, or software engineering at the time the scholarship is awarded
  • Have demonstrated financial need as determined by the FASFA
  • Apply here.
The CAREER Scholarship

Several recipients awarded annually.

Requirements:

  • Must be a Nebraska resident
  • Declared major in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Software Engineering
  • Official ACT score reported to admissions of a minimum 20 or above (SAT equivalent)
  • Outstanding high school grade point average or excellent class rank
  • Complete and submit the scholarship statement (optional)
  • Students with a completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will receive priority

Upper-Class Students

The STEM CONNECT Scholarship

Awarded annually.

Requirements:

  • Be a U.S. citizen, national (as defined in section 101(a) of the Immigration and Nationality Act), permanent resident or alien admitted as a refugee under section 207 of the Immigration and Nationality Act

The Cecilia Day Scholarship

Awarded annually.

Requirements:

  • Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Software Engineering major
  • Full-time enrollment
The Earle W. Schweiger, Jr. Memorial Scholarship

Awarded annually.

Requirements:

  • Computer Science major
  • Full-time or part-time enrollment
  • First preference to student with senior standing
  • Demonstrates financial need
The Garmin Computer Engineering Scholarship

Three concurrent recipients, awarded annually.

Requirements:

  • Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Software Engineering major
  • Full-time enrollment
  • Sophomore to senior standing
  • Renewable with 3.5+ GPA

Graduate Students

David A. Klarner Fellowship for Computer Science

Up to two concurrent recipients.

Requirements:

  • Enrolled in the School of Computing
  • Graduate class standing
  • Citizen of the United States of America
Mary E. and Elmer H. Dohrmann Fellowship Fund

Up to five concurrent recipients.

Requirements:

  • Enrolled in the School of Computing
  • Graduate class standing
  • Demonstrate promise of leadership and academic ability in the field
  • Preference given to candidate who demonstrates financial need
